Jeff's Journal |
Greetings my dear friends -
My friend and former ministry partner at the Pleasant Valley church, Chuck Monan, recently asked me to read one of Randy Harris’ recent books entitled Soul Work: Confessions of a Part-Time Monk. While there were a lot of profound truths included in this writing, nothing struck me more than Harris’ words:
“. . . there is nothing that drives away a sense of the presence of God like the illusion of our own competence” (pg. 145).
You might want to go back and read these words a second time. Reflect on them and then do me a favor. Take a minute and write just one paragraph that gives your interpretation of what these words mean to you . . . and then email such to me. I want to hear from you on this!
All of this reminds me of Paul’s words in Romans 12:3, 16 –
“For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you . . . Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.”
Fraternally,
